The international fair “Fruit Logistica Berlin” has opened its doors this morning to receive, for the next three days, professionals from the fresh products and logistics sector. Among them, we find the Port of Barcelona and the shipping company Grimaldi Group that presented their logistic solutions for the transportation of those type of products.
After a 30% of increase on the traffic of fruit and vegetables, in relation to 2018, the Port of Barcelona has been placed as one of the main bases of the Mediterranean for this type of operation. As their thirteenth year of presence in the fair, The Port of Barcelona wanted to highlight the recent expansion of 152 connections for container “reefer” made by APM Terminals Barcelona (increasing by 31% the available connections) and the incorporation of a gateway that allows stack up to four “reefer” containers in height, thus facilitating management.
This ampliation is a part of the investments made in recent years in the three container terminals, which have enabled the Port of Barcelona to currently have 2.200 simultaneous connections for refrigerated containers. It should be noted that it is currently offering regular container lines with the main issuing markets for fresh products (Africa and South and Central America), being at the same time one of the pillars of the maritime export to the main markets, such as Middle and Medio y Far East.
